Detroit Dryer Repair Easy to repair Tips

Dryer Outside Exhaust. The dryer is equipped with a blower of sufficient power to force the exhaust products through a considerable length of duct work to the outside. This is highly desirable where the dryer is installed in a small utility room, a kitchen, or even a basement. The heat is sufficient to raise the temperature of an average kitchen by several degrees. Since the dryer exhausts well over 1 gal. of water per hr., it tends to cause excess moisture and condensation on walls and windows. All heat, moisture, and lint may be vented outside by attaching a 3" diameter flue pipe, to the dryer and extending it through an outside wall or window. This flue must be very smooth on the inside because any rough places tend to collect lint which will clog the duct and prevent the dryer from exhausting properly. The elbows must be smooth on the inside and have at least a 2" radius on the inside bend. All joints must be made so that the exhaust end of one pipe is inside the next pipe. The addition of a vent pipe tends to reduce the amount of air the blower can exhaust but it does not affect the dryer operation if held within practical limits. Do not use more than four right-angle elbows and not more than 20' of straight pipe. Two feet of straight pipe may be added for each elbow less than four used. If the vent passes through a wall, it should be placed in a metal sleeve of slightly larger diameter. This practice is required by some local codes and is recommended in all cases to protect the wall from possible discoloration due to the high temperature of air passing through the vent pipe. If the vent extends through a window, the pane of glass should be removed and a sheet metal or plywood plate put in its place. The vent should not exhaust directly below a window, for this will tend to "steam" the window under certain weather conditions. A deflector of some sort must be placed over the end of the vent to prevent rain and high winds from entering the vent when the dryer is not in use. The lint screen should not be removed from the lint box when a dryer is being exhausted. If the back of the dryer is against an outside wall, the exhaust pipe should be used on the outside to prevent cold air and dirt from blowing in.
Dryer Lint Trap. All material exhausted from this dryer is filtered through a lint trap. A removable screen placed inside the trap catches the lint and should be cleaned at the end of each drying day. The screen should be cleaned after each load if linty materials, such as chenille bedspreads or tufted throw rugs, are being dried. To remove the screen, first remove the top panel. Slip the lint-trap assembly back until it clears the mounting ring on the front plate and lift it up and to the right. If the mounting bracket on the lint trap interferes with the return flange on the left side panel, use a slight amount of force to spring the side panel away and allow the lint-trap bracket to clear the panel. Lift the front of the lint trap up and to the right until it is in the triangular area formed between the cabinet brace and the front plate, and remove the lint trap. It may be hard to align the two prongs on the latch with the two holes in the lint trap housing. This difficulty usually arises because the hinge, which is spot welded to the housing, is out of line. To correct it, grasp the front of the lint-trap cover (the end which contains the latch) and twist it slightly either to the right or to the left, depending upon the direction in which the cover is out of line.
